Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India has established ‘MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to systematically foster the culture of Innovation amongst all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes while they are informative years. MIC has envisioned encouraging creation of ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs)’ across selected HEIs. A network of these IICs will be established to promote innovation in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campuses.
To create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem. Start-up supporting Mechanism in HEIs. Prepare institute for Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements Framework. Establish Function Ecosystem for Scouting Ideas and Pre-incubation of Ideas. Develop better Cognitive Ability for Technology Students.
Innovation Ecosystem : Innopreneur’s club was formed as part of EDC activity in 2015 to promote innovation and entrepreneurship avenues for innovation in campus. Various innovation skill training programmes, innovation contests, hackathons are being held for students in the campus. An annual event of i-week is celebrated during February every year to commemorate innovation ecosystem. List of events for innovation pitching, inno-venture, i-bazaar to have innovative products as in house trade fair etc are being done as intercollegiate event.
Since November 2018 the MHRD’s initiative Institution Innovation Council has been formed at PSGCAS and innovation promotion activities are routed through PSGCAS IIC. Activities as instructed by MIC (MHRD Innovation Council) to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, start-up and IPR are being held with wider coverage to include participation from every department and most of students in the campus. PSGCAS IIC focuses on IIC activities, MIC activities, Self-driven activities promoting Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Start-up and Incubation as directed by MIC. IIC directed activities were done in 2018-2019 and single star rating was obtained. For the year 2019-2020 similar activities were performed and quarterly scores were 24.99 on 25 and 48.31 on 50 for first and second quarters respectively. Two star rating for first two quarters have been obtained. PSGCAS-IIC aims at promoting more innovation promotion activities in campus and would align to the expectations of MHRD’s national mission.
PSGCAS has been participating in Atal Ranking of Institutions for Innovation Achievement since 2018. Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) is an initiative of Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India to systematically rank all major higher educational institutions and universities in India on indicators related to “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development” amongst students and faculties. PSGCAS as a premier HEI has taken its footprints in this path for creating awareness and promotion of Idea generation, innovation and supporting Entrepreneurship through various events, workshops for in-house and outside participants. Constant improvement on infrastructure facilities and gaining funding support for such activities are being done. An active IPR cell has been initiated for promoting more patents and technology transfers from innovative ideas from within college. Steps to introduce Innovative learning methods & courses and improve Technology commercialization of innovations are in pipeline. As an innovative governance model PSG CARE a unit of faculty training centre of PSG institutions have identified 10 faculty members from PSGCAS for training in Leadership modules through a one year intensive CIMHET (Certificate in Managing Higher Education Institutions) programme in February 2019. For the year 2019-20, PSGCAS has obtained a Band A rank (6th to 25th position) among Government aided colleges category in the national level ranking.
