Department of Psychology (Aided) established in the year 1975 functions in line with this objective of inculcating value based education among its learning community. The Department of Psychology (PSG CAS) has a long and distinguished history. The Psychology Laboratory here on campus is the largest in the state. Started with less than hundred students, the Department now has over 350 undergrad and postgraduate students. The department has grown in both size and stature that a new self-financing section for offering undergrad course in psychology was started in 2016. Psychology Department faculty members with around 95 years of cumulative experience, made significant contributions to the growing body of knowledge (in terms of research, curriculum design, training, and consultancy assignments) and to the profession.
PsyLens a student run e-magazine (bi-annual) of the department, serves as an aggregator platform for the recent researches, practices, and/or innovations in various fields within psychology, and presents the essence of them facilitating quick and easy understanding to the readers; it also carries few perspective articles written by psychology students. PsyLens is a legacy of our Psychology Association; it is nurtured and passed on to generations to come.
Centre for Hope (under the guidance of Psychology Department) was established in PSG CAS campus, to ensure Psychological and Emotional well-being of the PSG CAS community. The Centre continues to assist students through individual and group counseling (for managing stress, depression, anxiety etc.), premarital counseling, in managing behavioural addictions, Memory training, Healthy intervention through Yoga and Meditation. Centre for Hope also carries out Psychometric assessments (aptitude assessments for career guidance, and/or career advancement, academic achievement, Personality assessments, etc). Any issues of concern shared are handled in a confidential and supportive setting.
PSG Institutions always believes that education offers significant possibilities for character building among its stakeholders. Psychology Association lives by this philosophy through various knowledge dissemination forums such as Book Discussion Forum, Gita Discussion Forum, Quiz programmes, Daan Utsav celebrations, and involving collectively in several socially responsible endeavors.
