The Department of Costume Design and Fashion established in the year 1999 with undergraduate, Postgraduate started in the year 2004, M.Phil in 2007 and Ph.D. in 2011.The department is well equipped with state of the art equipments in the laboratories. The program channelizes the creative skills of the students, gives proper direction to the creative quotient and communication skill to mould them into successful Fashion Designers. The department focuses on providing wholesome education to the students with emphasis on - Innovative Garments Designing, Fashion Illustration and Designing, Computer Aided Fashion and Garments design. Knowledge of the students is enriched with Guest Lectures, Seminars and workshops on various topics by experts in their respective fields.
The Skill training centre was established and initiated in year of 2008 with the 25 Lakhs cost of investment by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. The skill training centre was started with the objective of socio-economic development of rural and urban public India. The PSG CAS have signed MOU with IL&FS and NIFT TEA for various skill developments projects namely MORD (Ministry of Rural Development), MOT (Ministry of Textile), ISDS (Integrated Skill Development Scheme), Magalir Thittam (socio-economic empowerment programme for women implemented by Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women) and NULM (National Rural Livelihood Mission). The total funds generated by the various programs worth above 24,50,000 and trained 1,225 candidates.
The college also awarded by the MOT for THE BEST INSTITUTE: WOMEN SKILL DEVELOPMENT for the year 2014- 2015 and THE BEST INSTITUE: SKILL TRAINING 2015-16. PMKVY 3.0 project with the name Skill hub- Self Employed Tailor course with 30 members was on-going.
