About the Department
The department of Microbiology in PSG College of Arts & Science aims to fulfill the required level of learning with adequate practical skills which is the need of the hour. The realm of Applied Microbiology started in 1983 with a post graduate degree under aided programme and later in 1993 under graduate degree was initiated by unaided programme. The facility of education was extended till research level where MPhil and PhD programmes are offered with specific field of specialization such as Microbial Biotechnology, Textile Microbiology, Mycology, Environmental Microbiology, Immunology and Medical Microbiology, Antimicrobial Chemotherapy etc.
The department was adjudged as the best department of Microbiology in Tamil Nadu among various colleges by AC Neilson Survey, Sun TV, Chennai. The infrastructural facilities available are well equipped for students to use in. There are two laboratories devoted for teaching UG & PG students, three research laboratories for carrying out research projects. The department of the Institute is currently running research projects sponsored by DST, DBT and ICMR.
The flagship of the department is high as all the staff member holds doctoral degree with innovative research background. The department also concentrates on the societal development through certain extension activities. We at PSGCAS believe that Work is Worship and we will continue to work to the utmost brim to build up our nation through education.
